I believed that Computer science was just understanding computers until I was introduced to the notion that it is more about solving a problem (which may/may not make use of a computer) and coming up with simple and useful ideas.

This has been a major motivating factor for me to enter into this field. In addition to learning computer technology, it also involves a lot of interaction with people, be it designing games for kids, making things for visually challenged, or helping in solving some social problems. Given that there are so many problems yet to be solved makes Computer Science all the more exciting.
